Crystal Red Shrimp (CRS) is gene mutation species, which is a category of Caridina sp., and originated from Southern China. A Great Japanese breeder called Mr. H Suzuki, who developed CRS with new physical characteristics as such beauitful red form among the normal black bee shrimp offspring in 1996. For the very original CRS, its body appears most of red, with little white colour strips and even transparent.
During the past decade, CRS have been selectively bred to achieve many different form of red/black and white strips colour pattern on its body, and even to achieve more and more solid white area of whole body. Simply speaking, the sharper red/black colour, with broader area of solid white, the higher value it would be. In addition rare colour patterns on its head part which have been classified as higher grade CRS.
Many of the CRS hobbyist addicted by such of its nice colours pattern, great algae eating habits, amazing scene of hundreds of CRS gathering into group for foods inside shrimp tank, and their ambition to breed and improve higher grade specimens with more white patches and intensified and lesser the red part on its body, this CRS gained massive popularity not only in Japan, but all over the world.
